In my experience, the fear of looking foolish is one of the most limiting factors for many women in business. This fear may show up as confusion, not making a decision, not speaking up, stepping up, or following up. These are just a few of the ways your concern about "what others think" stops you from taking big bold action. I know this because in the past I have let it stop me.
Sometimes the fear of looking foolish or bad shows up as perfectionism. The need for everything to be perfect may cause procrastination, missed deadlines, or excessive planning and no action.
Other reasons you may stop is your need to be liked or loved. So you avoid controversy, you try to always please others, and if you are an entrepreneur, you likely undercharge and over deliver.
Your unmet needs, whatever they may be, will keep you small. You will believe the voices in your head when they say ...
"Who are you to do__________, what will others think if I _________"
And then you will stop. Stop on your way to that amazing vision you have about what you want your future to look like.
Assignment:
- Notice the voices in your head. What are they saying? How are those messages limiting your success? Journal about your discovery.
- What limiting belief about your ability to be enormously successful in business do you need to change first? How will you do it ? When you do it? What will change about the results you achieve?
- For every negative voice in your head, or assumption you make, turn it around and ask yourself what would be different if I believed the totally opposite assumption?
"Do one thing everyday that scares you." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
